Mr. Gunnell will be starting his third season at the Tiroler Landestheater as the court poet Iopas, in Hector Berlioz’s grand opera Les Troyen, or The Trojans. The opera follows the epic story at the fall of Troy as the fated wooden horse is wheeled into the city gates and Aeneas flees his homeland with the remenants of the Trojan Army to found their new homeland of Italy. En route he is wracked upon the shores of Carthage where he meets and instantly loves the queen Dido. Mr. Gunnell finds himself in the middle of palace culture and intrigue as the court “see-all” and confidant to the queen. Sung in original French with German surtitles.
